Meet Jacoby Ray At World Foods
SPEAKER_03The best part of World Foods is impromptu.
SPEAKER_00Total impromptu. I love it. It's amazing.
SPEAKER_03So this it is amazing, man. We meet some of the best, coolest fucking people out here.
SPEAKER_00Well, this is becoming like family, because like MSH Nation is like huge here, and we've all kind of been like thrown in together. Yeah. So we'll let you just introduce yourself to everybody. Your camera's here, so go for it.
SPEAKER_02Uh hi, I'm Jacoby Ray. I am the president of what we call Meet So Horny, the MSH Nation. That's Meet So Horny. Yeah, we uh Meet So Horny. Make sure you spell it right, because if you spell it wrong, you'll get my mama's OnlyFans, and we don't want that to happen. It's all feet pictures, and everybody wants that.
SPEAKER_00Well, some people do.
SPEAKER_02Well, there is that.
SPEAKER_00There is that.
SPEAKER_02Everybody has a fetish.
SPEAKER_03Uh you have a pretty interesting story, bro. I mean, you came from uh you're more of a you're in a comedic comedic world and and all that stuff.
SPEAKER_0230 years of stand-up, five uh five comedy specials underneath my belt, and then we're gonna go. Dumb favorite joke. We were just talking. Do what? Double favorite joke. I do, and I think I can probably tell it on your podcast. Please do.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. All right, let's do it. You ready? We've never started on a podcast.
SPEAKER_02So you have to stay with me because it's gonna get a little rough, right? All right, let's do it. This clown and this little boy are walking in the woods holding hands. The longer they're walking into the woods, the darker it's getting. The little boy squeezes the clown's hand and looks up and he goes, It's getting awful scary in here. It's getting awful dark. And the clown goes, You think you're scared, kid? I gotta walk out of here by myself.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. So bad.
SPEAKER_03I love that's the joke is the point. It is if you don't laugh at that one, then come out. Yeah, I'll stay right here, man.
SPEAKER_00We might get to that point in this conversation where I
Thirty Years In Comedy
SPEAKER_00break out my jokes, but we'll see how that goes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, no, we got some word dirty.
SPEAKER_00I like it so you came up, yeah. So coming up in the comedy space and entertainment, how how the hell did you get from that into spices and barbecue and rocks?
SPEAKER_02That's the question I get asked all the time, even by people that they're like, How did you get into this? And I'm like, I've never been a chef. I've always liked to cook. Cooking's always been a passion of mine. And I I had three kids raised them all the way up, so like I know how to cook for people. I was in the army for six and a half years before all this started, so I was 11 Bravo in there. I didn't really cook a lot besides the MREs, but I just always had a passion for cooking. So as COVID comes along, guys like me on the road that were doing stand-up, they closed all the doors for all the comedy clubs. Nobody could really work. So I got on TikTok and I started making videos and writing my comedy and the content. The TikTok blew up. Uh Robert Gilbert, who was with Casey O'Veare.
SPEAKER_00We had him on the show last year, so he's on our channel yet.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he's my own.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02At the time, he found me on social media and he was like, hey man, could you uh maybe do a shout-out or a video for us? And I was like, What's your company called? And he goes, Meet so horny, and I was like, I'm in. Done. And he's like, I didn't even I was like, I don't care. I don't know what it is. And he's like, we got our first rub called Rub Your Chub, and I was like, send that to me right now.
SPEAKER_00Also in.
SPEAKER_02So we started out with three rubs. It was Rub Your Chubb, Rub Your Pecker, and the Maple Bourbon.
unknownMaple Bourbon?
The Viral Joke That Stuck
SPEAKER_03You gotta summer it down. Bring it back to the street.
SPEAKER_02The rub your pecker was anything, anything with a it was a poultry rub. Anything with a beak. So anything with a pecker. Yeah, yeah. So we we as we started to build out the franchise, um, we started to expand the line and we and we started with with um one second, one second. I didn't realize that was on tag. It's got a timer. Well, that's in the meta glasses. It started ringing in my I couldn't hear a dang thing, you know what I'm saying? These things are neat, by the way.
SPEAKER_00Those are really cool. Yeah, and the cool thing is filming us, filming him on the five.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, watch this.
SPEAKER_00Are you told filming us?
SPEAKER_02Oh, thank you. Oh, you can start filming everywhere. That's awesome, yeah. The one thing that I like with these glasses, side note, if you do like cooking videos, you get the first person view. So like you can film like you're doing it, and then you get the overhead look, and then you go back into editing, and the the the transitions are really, really cool. Very cool.
SPEAKER_03Good tip, everybody out there. Anyone listening to a guy who knows what he's doing on social media, your social media would follow is pretty pretty severe.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've got like 17 million for just myself.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, so that's that's Instagram. That's just no big deal. Yeah, no big deal.
SPEAKER_02I mean 17 mil. 17 million. It's weird. After the first one, you're like, ah.
SPEAKER_00But is it weird though, like when people recognize you or say like I see your shit, you're just like hell.
SPEAKER_02What's the funniest thing is that uh like they'll know me from TikTok. I've got five comedy specials under my belt. I've been in three movies, and they know us as the wee woo guys on TikTok. And that's good, you know, every joke I've ever wrote in my entire life, I'm gonna go down as the wee-woo guy. Is the guy that made that video on TikTok. Which I'm cool with it, because I took him 17 million followers and turned them into customers. What joke was it now? Because I need to know. Because I'm I'm new to the book. Oh, you don't know it? Okay, so I probably do it. So if you hear police sirens or anything out there, so you go wee woo wee. Okay. And it's a thing on TikTok.
SPEAKER_03Have I seen this? I got a thing. You know it?
SPEAKER_02You've seen it, now you know who we are now, don't you say? This whole weekend you had no idea it was us. The wee woo. It's
From Stage To Spices
SPEAKER_02a it's a whole thing, but the the first responders, police officers, uh, uh, ambulance drivers, they all love us because they're like, Man, it's really cool that you guys are doing this, because it's like we're not calling them bacons or pigs. It's not a description, no, no, we're all like trying to help them. Yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's fine.
SPEAKER_02And the cops come over and they do the dance with us and they have a blast. So you know, so Robert hits me and he goes, Hey man, do a commercial for me. So I did one commercial for him. I put it on my page, he put it on his plates, it went viral. He called me back and he paid me for that one commercial. He's like, I'll give you, I think it was 300 bucks for a video. And at the time I was like, it was after COVID. I was like, bro, I'll take that right now. You know, I'm trying to pay some bills, you know what I'm saying? Nice. Before you start selling feet pigs, yeah, before I nobody want my feet piss, I'm gonna tell you. If I was a stripper, they'd pay me to keep my clothes on.
SPEAKER_03They lock the doors before the ship started.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, while the janitors on stage, let's lower a nickel at him. Yeah, right? But I he and he called me back and he said, do three more videos. So I did three more videos and they took off. And he called this this hooser from Indiana and he's like, You want to fly down to Miami? And I was like, bro, I can't afford Miami. I live in the fucking Grove, a beach grove over here. Like, I ain't going to Miami. He's like, I'll fly you down. He flew me down, wind me, dine me, talk to me. He's like, I need you for a spokesman. So two years ago, uh, it was a year and 10 10 months ago, we took my TikTok account on my kitchen table at my house, and we had the dry rubs in my back bedroom, and I started going on TikTok live and I was selling to people. And I was like, hey, if you buy this bundle, I'll sign this bottle. If you buy two bundles, I'll I'll give you a hat and sign it, and this, that, and the other. We went from my bedroom to a 20 by 25 storage unit. And that 20 by 25 storage unit, we were there for three months. We moved into a 1200 square uh a 1,200 square foot shop in the Beach Grove. We were there for a year, and we just moved this week into an 8,000 square foot warehouse over at Park Fletcher right next to Amazon and FedEx. Oh, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_03That's good work, bro.
SPEAKER_02We partnered with AF Tactical, worth the squirt hot sauce. We got Bill Goldberg from uh WWE. He's now worked with Casey. You guys just have a Casey's a part of our family as well, and it just turned it's like the homeless into happiness story, you know.
TikTok Breakthrough And MSH
SPEAKER_02I love this.
SPEAKER_03I need to get in on this train here.
SPEAKER_02You absolutely can. Everybody here is welcome, and the good thing about MSH is there's always something to do because we have created so much work.
SPEAKER_00You guys do a lot with your marketing, and I know we had conversation with Robert too of like the importance of branding, sticking to the brand, you know, finding people who are passionate about it. Yeah. Every single person we've met from your team is, I mean, it's a good idea. They're bad.
SPEAKER_02They're special people.
SPEAKER_00They have a blast, they know how to party, they're about to brand.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we're all about it. Yeah, they're about the brand. We we have one rule at MSH. We will drug test you, and if you pass, you are so fucking fired.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_02Do you do drugs? Yes. Yes. Perfect. Perfect. It's not in. Not the bad ones, just the good ones, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just the good ones. I mean, high quality. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're not here for the bad stuff. No, we're not cheap.
SPEAKER_02Um, but we do we what we do is we uh we employ people that are uh like myself and Swami, we're both veterans of the army. We employ vets, we employ homeless people, people trying to get their stuff back together. I would rather live with an honest sinner than hang around a bunch of false saints. That's right. So that right there creates workers, you know.
SPEAKER_00That's amazing.
SPEAKER_02And and good Lord above on on our side, we're gonna do it.
SPEAKER_00You know, so you are doing it because we see you guys, I mean, and it's great.
SPEAKER_02We're everywhere.
SPEAKER_00Getting everywhere now.
SPEAKER_03He's the weavy guy, man.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's you, outside of that.
SPEAKER_03You're gonna watch that video later and be like, I'm not gonna call my kid, my daughter. She's gonna tell me all about it, I know. And she's on TikTok every minute of the day.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, mine is too. We're on repeat on TikTok. I think that's probably been shared probably a million times. Probably crazy. Probably have to wait.
SPEAKER_00Isn't it funny though, as a like stand-up comic, that one joke, like you don't know if it's gonna hit or not, and then all of a sudden that's the one you're gonna have to perform at every show for the rest of your life. Yeah. Because everybody's waiting for it. Like, everybody, Gabrielle Glacius has like the donut story. Like, everybody has their story. And one joke that sticks.
SPEAKER_02It's like that one song that a that a that a like Def Leopard will always sing, pour some sugar in it. Exact until the day they die. That's right. And that's the one they were like, ah, this is gonna, we'll just throw it in the album. It's not and it turned out to be the one.
SPEAKER_01It's a hit. That's right.
SPEAKER_02The funny thing is, like the comedy specials we wrote, all the stuff we've been to. I know you're yeah, it's like uh the funny thing is is once this one stuck, everybody went back and they looked at my old stuff and all of it took off. So apparently it did work.
SPEAKER_00That is really fun.
SPEAKER_02But it's so funny, like, aren't you the wee woo guy? And I'm like, I'm Jacoby. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I'm sure here. I'm not just the wee woo guy. I'm a wee guy. Show me some love and respect. God damn it, be decent.
SPEAKER_00Be decent, you know. Respect on the wee-woo name. Yeah, I know, exactly.
SPEAKER_03I'm not just a wee wooer, right? Well, a multiple wooer, not just a weeer. I have feelings.
SPEAKER_00All right, so we'll have to
Creator Tools And POV Filming
SPEAKER_00ask this as a you know kind of informational educational portion of the program. Since you do the social and you have made a big success of it, do you think it is the kind of luck of the draw when things hit, or do you, you know, do you stick to a strategic plan when it comes to social media?
SPEAKER_02It's well, it's a lot of people ask me, they're like, How'd you guys get famous on there? That was never the plan. It was we were just throwing stuff on the internet because we were locked in the house during COVID, like everybody else was. And then when things started to take off, we started really noticing, hey, this is really working. And you know, and I had a lot of comedic friends that would meet when I started doing TikTok. I'd go do a show at Cracker's Comedy Club, and I was like, Hey, you guys on TikTok? And they're like, What are you on TikTok for? My kid's on TikTok, you idiot. Five years later, those guys are like, Hey man, can you help me out on TikTok? So, like, we we leaned into the part that no one really wanted to lean into, and and it turned out to be one of the biggest blessings ever. You know what I mean? Sure. So, like, they we took an app that was known for lip-syncing and dancing and whatnot, and we brought our comedy and our cooking style and our warped sense of humor to the and come to find out we had so many people out there that are like, dude, I would hang out with you guys all day long. Or it's all jokes and cooking. And if you don't like to laugh and eat, I don't know why you're here. That's right.
SPEAKER_03You gotta at least eat and laugh, one or two, but you gotta like you gotta like to eat and you can't laugh while you're eating because you're my joke. I love it, bro. Hey, well, listen, man, this has been amazing. What where how can people find you? Obviously, it's not gonna be hard.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. All you gotta just type my name in on Google, uh Jacoby Ray. That will probably bring up pictures. Absolutely. No, you're good. Uh Jacoby Ray, just type it in on Google, it'll bring up
Audience, Identity, And The “Wee Woo”
SPEAKER_02all my socials and uh it'll bring up all the movies, it'll bring up all the stuff that we're doing here and all the collaborations. Just J-A-C-O-B-Y-R-A-Y.
SPEAKER_00And M S H Nation is now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, or just type in the president of MSH Nation, which I never thought I'd be the president of anything. Congratulations, Mr. President. Yeah, I know. Oh, president. Third year of rain here, so haven't been dethroned yet.
SPEAKER_03If you can leave one word to somebody who is trying to get somewhere on social media post the luck of COVID, right? Yeah. So now, this day and age, what what what can you recommend to anybody who's trying to do something right now without without that time?
SPEAKER_02It's real simple. There's a real simple formula that we figured out, yeah, and it's throw everything into the wall until something sticks. If people want to get famous on social media, I've watched it a thousand times. They'll make five or six videos, it doesn't take off and they quit. You post, and we do, we post six times a day, nonstop, Facebook, Instagram. When it comes to stories, drop a story or two. The more stuff you post, the more chances you got to hit the lottery. It's just like playing the lottery. You think you're gonna win on one ticket, or would you rather have a hundred thousand tickets? Right. So keep throwing stuff up there. We've shot 20,000 videos, and probably 50 of them are viral. But it took 20,000 videos to get it.
SPEAKER_03And that in itself is discouraging to some because that's a lot. The odds aren't. So you're saying that the odds aren't good.
SPEAKER_02No, that it's it's not, but if you get out there and you really grind and you stick with it and you keep going, and that what people don't understand is, well, I just got into content creation, I only have a few videos. Keep going. Because if when people find that one video, when I go to your page, I want a booklet of videos to watch. If you only got a few of them on there, I'm not gonna follow you because you're not really producing. Who wants to follow somebody that doesn't produce content?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And the good thing is, is what we've figured out, and this will be up on somewhere, and Facebook is gonna figure this out one day. When they do, we don't care because we were vocal about it. On Facebook, we run our we run our pages on our millions of followers, and they run they pay us to run in-stream ads. So as our videos are playing, there's a commercial at the bottom. Yeah, you get to pick your commercials. So on all of our pages, we run all of my companies on the bottom, and Facebook pays us to run in-ad streams on there. We've never paid a nickel in advertising. We've only used social media, and we're a $75 million company.
SPEAKER_01That's amazing.
SPEAKER_02And we work incredible. Good work.
SPEAKER_03And everybody's like, Would you shoot videos for us? And I'm like, yeah, for $10,000. So do you think if you're a guy or a girl who has an actual thing, like I'm a chef, I have restaurants, I have awards, I have a huge following. Yep. Is that a better chance than the guy who's felled off a banana peel, shit his fucking pants, fell down the stairs and they put music to it and gets a million fucking views?
SPEAKER_02As much as I would like to say yes, I always say that you can grind all day like me and finally get there after five years, or you can be the hop to a girl.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And one video just took off. That's right. And it's and it's it's the luck of the drawing.
SPEAKER_03So it's just like you said, throw it until it sticks.
SPEAKER_02The rules of social media that I live by is no
Turning Followers Into Customers
SPEAKER_02religion, no politics, no who matters more, no black. All that stuff in the news people want to argue about all day long because as soon as you lean into one of that, two-thirds of your audience is gone. The people that don't agree with you and the people in the middle.
SPEAKER_03To be honest, bro, I don't even give a shit about one two-thirds of it. I don't care either. I'd be the worst advocate.
SPEAKER_02You could any of that. You could put up you could put a monkey in the White House right now. The sun's still gonna rise. I know. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_03I don't care. I have no, I have no people are like, I'm sick of shitty presidents.
SPEAKER_02And I'm like, perhaps we should get better candidates. Yeah. There's that part. Very true. You're a president. I you don't want me president of the country. I can't I can't watch my grandkids over the weekend. I'm not gonna be responsible for every person in this country.
SPEAKER_03Are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_02No, we are going down like a fat kid on a seesaw. You put me in charge. Oh, yeah. I could do the barbecue, but not the country.
SPEAKER_00You are doing a great job with that. We love seeing you guys. We love being here on World Food with you guys. If you're in Virginia, you're coming our way. Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_02We'll swing by and cook.
SPEAKER_00We can totally do it at this restaurant.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I would love that. That would be great.
SPEAKER_00All right, cool.
SPEAKER_03Awesome. Awesome. I'm gonna send you some of my sauces too. See what you think of it. We'll send you some of our stuff.
SPEAKER_02We got new brand new stuff. We got Wagyu beef jerky over there, you've got to try. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I didn't know that. Oh, yeah. You've been holding over me.
SPEAKER_02Well, I've got crazy freeze-dried candy with new barbecue sauces, new cold smoked sauce. Every time you see us, we've got new stuff. That's true, you're right. All right, stay in the game somehow.
SPEAKER_03Thanks for tuning in to us once again. We appreciate you. Uh Burham's perspective loves you guys. Our podcast loves you guys, and ciao for now.
SPEAKER_00Ciao
